Art Clay Silver

I bet you did not know that I dabble in Art Clay Silver.  I took a class about 3 years ago.  Then, it just kinda sat there.  Over Spring break I had a renewed interest in the craft.  I have 3 designs coming out in "Belle Armoire Jewelry".  I am not yet certified.   It takes 3 days of classes to receive your certification, I never seem to have the time.  But I think there is a class on Thursday on how to make tube beads.  I just might check it out.

I just listed 6 Art Clay Silver bird theme pendants at my Etsy shop.  I thought I would share the photographs with you.

  1. Very nice. I remember the metal art clay being very popular when it first came out. I always loved it, and glad to see a renewing interest in it.

  4. Wow those are really really special. I love the details. Did you carve them in art clay directly or cast them from other objects?

  5. Thanks everyone. Nicki they are cast and some what carved.

  8. Certified, schmertified! Who needs a piece of paper telling you that that you have mastered PMC when you make pretty things like that? I have taken two classes now and it is just as mysterious as when I started. I love it so. Wish I had more time to experiment or take more classes. Can't wait to see the Belle Armoire spread. It will be GOR-geous!
    Enjoy the day!

  9. These are sooo pretty! Why get certified if you already make treasures like this!

  10. Your pieces are beautiful! I'm amazed at your talent-for having not worked with the stuff for a while!

I would love to try this but the cost of setup, more tools, more materials to buy, plus classes.....well I can't justify it right now. Hopefully the craft will still be popular when the time comes!

  17. I'm with you Denise! I've been certified and loved working with the clay...just unsure of the kiln (which is collecting dust). Love all of the pendants...simple yet stunning!

  21. Beautiful pieces. I'd love to learn how to work with art clay, but I have so many different things going on, my husband would probably scream :) That and I'd need to find a kiln. I can't wait to see your pieces in the magazine.

  22. Denise,
    Nice pieces.
Don't waste your time and money on 'certification'. Just make sure to always use a kiln to properly fire your pieces - 2 hours, 1650º and proper ventilation.
Kate McKinnon's new book is a must-have for anyone new working with metal clay. You'll never have broken pieces and waste precious metal. It's the best how-to and reference book I've found on this medium. Wish she had written it years ago.
Good luck and look forward to seeing your work in BAJ!
