The first phase of the Bead Soup Blog Party has begun.  I shipped out my package this morning to my partner Amanda Davie .  If you have not seen Amanda's Etsy store   & "What's On The Wall" you need to check it out.  She is an amazing multi-media jewelry designer and artist.  Attached are photos of what I gathered to send Amanda.  I wanted to think out of the box,  so a ready made pendant would not do.  It seemed so uninspiring for this talented artisan. The "Soup" is a mix of vintage carnelian beads, yellow agate, amazonite, turquoise, aquamarine, citrine drops, carnelian drops, bone flowers, resin crackle beads, Czech glass hearts and one Raku bead. The focal is an antique lock and key with a silver "inspire"bird charm.  The clasp was hand made by myself.  It is a brass key bent into a hook and a riveted brass bird on a hammered ring. Glitterfes t is an altered art, mixed media art show and sale.  The festivities take place on Saturday, May 22 at the Elks Lodge in Santa Ana, CA from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  If you live in Southern California, this is a must see show.  I am going to attend the show and have requested an application to sell at the Fall 2010 show.

On Friday I got the chance to meet Beth Livesay, Managing Editor of   Jewelry Affaire , Altered Couture , Haute Handbag s and Somerset Home .   These magazines are some of the most inspiring magazines on the newsstand today.   Beth is absolutely darling.   Young, successful and a natural beauty.   When I arrived at the office she was wearing one of my special occasion necklaces that I gifted to her with jeans and a peasant top. She likes Coco Chanel, Project Runway and my vintage/romantic style of jewelry.   I think we are kindred souls.   We weeded through a ton of jewelry designs that I had brought with me to Stampington & Co .   We narrowed the choices down to about 50 pieces.   These pieces include necklaces, bracelets and earrings.   Beth and her art department choose a few designs to be published in the Fall, sophomore issue of Jewelry Affaire.   Our picture was taken in Beth’s office next to all the fabulous Altered C...

This morning in my daughter Britton's class we celebrated Mother's Day with a fabulous breakfast.  Mrs. Carpio, Pre-K teacher extraordinaire, had the children make their mother's a necklace crafted out of ribbon, paper and plastic gems.  The necklaces are beautiful.  Mrs. Carpio approached me this morning stating "Britton took extra care in picking out the colors of the gems."  Britton told her "Mommy would use this gem in a necklace" or "She just made a necklace in this color the other night."  Mrs. Carpio called her "Rusty Roxx Too" referring to my business Rusty Roxx.  She said "You know the store "Limited" and "Limited Too", one is for adults and the other is for children."  Both of us agree we have a future jewelry designer on our hands. I love the necklace my daughter crafted for me.  It is more beautiful than any design I could ever dream up in my head.  I believe this is what Mother's Day is...

Lori Anderson is putting together a Bead Soup Blog Party .  Party goers send a focal, special clasp and a small assortment of coordinating beads to a bead swap partner.  The party starts the week of June 19th.  It will last several days so everyone can view all the designs.  You must enter by May 7th.  Please click on the link for all the details.

Good Morning everyone.  It is the last day of May, the deadline for entries into the "Bead Star" competition.  I received a couple of emails this morning stating that "The deadline has been extended to May 10".  This has created much controversy in the beading world.  Why would they extend the deadline 10 days?  Did they not get enough entries to have a competitive competition?  I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.  I finished my entries 3 weeks ago.  I am proud of what I created, so I am not worried about the extra ten days. The downside for me is wondering if  voting will be pushed out another 10 days?  Let me know your thoughts.

The deadline to enter Interweave’s annual “ Bead Star ” competition is midnight EST on April 30. The “Bead Star” contest is conducted once a year. The editors of Bead Star , Beadwork , Stringing and Step by Step Wire select the top 20 finalist in 9 categories. These categories include: Crystals, Seed Beads, Glass, Pearls, Stones, Metals, Plastics, Under $25 and Designs With Heart. The top 20 finalist in each category will be posted on Beadingdaily.com from May 19 – June 9. You will be given the opportunity to vote for your favorites during this time. The 5 entries in each category that receive the top votes will be featured in “Bead Star” 2010 magazine. This issue will hit the newsstand in December. This year, I have submitted designs for all 9 categories. I will not know which, if any, designs have made the top 20 until the voting begins on May 19.
